The total of seven Holy Monasteries of the island of Ioannina occupy in a set of monasteries the third place in the Greek area after those of Mount Athos and Meteora.
One of them, the monastery of Agios Nikolaos Stratigopoulou or Diliou, is built on the northeastern side of the island and is a short distance from the monastery of Filanthropinon (also in honor of Agios Nikolaos). It consists of the two-storied cellular and a built-in two-storey cell surrounded by a wall as an enclosure, which also encloses the ruins of older cells and auxiliary spaces.
The Stratopoulos or Dilios monastery was probably founded in the 13th century. from the homonymous Byzantine family, which settled in Ioannina in 1204, after the conquest of Constantinople by the Franks of the Fourth Crusade. The Stratigopoulos family is known from sources for the offices that held its members in the city of Ioannina. Later, in the 17th century, the Diliou family also benefited from the monastery.

Boats, with which you can travel from the city of Ioannina to the islet of Lake Pamvotis. Its relatively calm waters have transformed the lake into a liquid mirror reflecting the clouds, the opposite mountains and the yellowed leaves from the tree-lined coastline.

The church of the Archimandrite, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, was the katholikon of the monastery of the Archimandriο or Lady Chimantriotissa.
Its name should probably be connected with the lead it had among the other monasteries of Ioannina, as the archimandrite abbot lived in it.According to another version, the name Archimandrite comes from the name of its founder.
The monastery is first mentioned in the sources in 1383, on the occasion of the passage of the abbot Gabriel to Constantinople, where he met with the emperor Manuel II Palaiologos. After his return, Gabriel became the metropolitan of Ioannina.
From the end of the 15th century in Archimandreio it is a nunnery, the nuns of which were famous for their performance in the weaving and processing of silk and linen fabrics. In its current form, the church is a large three-aisled vaulted basilica, with three arches on the east and a narthex on the west.
