Ο Ι.Ναός 'Ελκομένου (επì τού Σταυρού) Χριστού είναι ο μοναδικός στην Ελλάδα με αυτή την αφιέρωση,
Τρίκλιτη βασιλική με τρούλο, τρεις ημικυκλικές αψίδες στα ανατολικά και θολωτό νάρθηκα στα δυτικά. Στην αψίδα του ιερού διαμορφώνεται σύνθρονο με τον επίσκοπο θρόνο στο μέσον. Η αρχιτεκτονική μορφή που έχει σήμερα ο ναός προήλθε από μετασκευές σε διαφορετικές εποχές.(6ος-20ός αι)
Ελάχιστοι ίσως γνωρίζουν ο πολύμηνο θρίλερ που διαδραματίστηκε μεταξύ 1979 και 1980 για τον εντοπισμό της εικόνας μετά την απαργή της από απότακτο αξιωματικό, αλλά και το ότι στην συγκεκριμένη αρπαγή είχε βασισθεί το επιτυχημένο σίριαλ της κρατικής τηλεόρασης «Ιερόσυλοι» με τον Θάνο Λειβαδίτη, σε σκηνοθεσία του Κώστα Λυχναρά.
Η εικόνα που είχε μετά από περιπέτειες ανεβρεθεί το 1980 και φυλασσόταν έκτοτε στο Βυζαντινό Μουσείο, γύρισε στον τόπο της ύστερα από 32 χρόνια και πολυετείς προσπάθειες του Μητροπολίτη Μονεμβασίας και Σπάρτης Ευστάθιου αφού δόθηκαν οι αναγκαίες εγγυήσεις για την ασφάλεια της.
Ο σπουδαίος Φώτης Κόντογλου, μοναδικός αγιογράφος ο ίδιος, είχε χαρακτηρίσει τη συγκεκριμένη εικόνα αριστούργημα. Πρόκειται «ίσως για τη σπουδαιότερη Σταύρωση σε φορητή εικόνα».
Ο τότε αξιωματικός της ΕΛΑΣ Σωτήρης Ηλιόπουλος - υπηρετούσε στο Τμήμα Εγκλημάτων κατά Ζωής και Ιδιοκτησίας το 1980 - που είχε πραγματοποιήσει την σχετική έρευνα αναφέρει: «Θυμάμαι τον τότε υπουργό Πολιτισμού, ο οποίος όταν έμαθε ότι βρήκαμε την εικόνα ήλθε στη γκαρσονιέρα, γονάτισε στο πάτωμα, έκανε το σταυρό του και μας είπε "βρέθηκε ο σύγχρονος Παρθενώνας που είχε χαθεί"».

I consider a real achievement I managed to photograph one of the busiest islands of Greece, Hydra, without any people at all.

Από την Γεροπλίνα,έναν ορμίσκο-μικρό επίγειο παράδεισο,άγνωστο στους πολλούς , ξεκινά μονοπάτι το οποίο οδηγεί σε περίπου10 λεπτά με τα πόδια,στον φάρο. Μέχρι πριν από λίγα χρόνια εκεί κατοικούσε μόνιμος φαροφύλακας, ενώ τώρα η λειτουργία του είναι αυτόματη.
Ο φάρος κατασκευάστηκε το 1854 από την Γαλλική Εταιρεία Φάρων. Το ύψος του πύργου του είναι 9 μέτρα και το εστιακό του ύψος είναι 16 μέτρα. Κτίστηκε σε δύο οικοδομικές φάσεις, η πρώτη το 1854 από τη Γαλλική εταιρεία των Οθωμανικών φάρων, κατά την οποία κτίστηκε το φαρόσπιτο, ενώ το φωτιστικό σώμα βρίσκονταν στην κορυφή μεταλλικού πύργου και εντάχθηκε στο Ελληνικό φαρικό δίκτυο το 1881 με την προσάρτηση της Θεσσαλίας στο Ελληνικό κράτος. Στη δεύτερη οικοδομική φάση κτίστηκε ο πύργος του φάρου το 1918 από το Ελληνικό Δημόσιο, ο οποίος είναι τετράγωνος και έχει ύψος 9 μέτρων. Στο επάνω επίπεδο μέρος του πύργου πατά ο κυλινδρικός μεταλλικός κλωβός, ο οποίος στεγάζει το φωτιστικό σώμα το οποίο βρίσκεται σε εστιακό ύψος 16 μέτρων από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας. Το 2001 χαρακτηρίστηκε από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού ως ιστορικό διατηρητέο μνημείο.
