The Netherlands - Schiermonnikoog
In 1853 king William III ordered the building of two lighthouses on the Wadden isle Schiermonnikoog. They stood in line and thus functioned as recognisable beacons for the shipping. At the start of the 20th Century the fixed lights of the red, northern tower were replaced by turning ones. The white, southern tower became unnecessary. In the period 1950-1992 it served as a water tower, and later on as a KPN antenna tower. The Netherlands - Texel
A kite aerial photography outing with fellow KAP-er Ramon (Kappix) on the Wadden isle Texel. Our first stop at the southeastern part of the isle, with a view on the Wadden Sea and the recent dike reinforcement works, executed between 2016 and 2020. On this spot -at the height of the Prins Hendrikpolder- was opted for dike reinforcement in terms of outer dike, man-made dunes. A more nature friendly solution. The Netherlands-Terschelling
A view on the hamlet Striep or Seerijp, situated close to a small outside the dyke saltmarsh in the Wadden Sea. It is said that Striep is the location of the oldest settlement on the Wadden isle Terschelling. In the Middle Ages the aristocracy lived here. Next to this oldest settlement lies -behind the older sea front- one of the youngest polders of the island: the Strieper-Seeryper polder, or Polder het Nieuwland (1856). This polder, as well as the saltmarsh outside the dyke, is a well known high tide refuge for (migrating) birds and (territorial) birdwatchers.
