The Netherlands - Spaarndam
View on the secondary battery near one of the 46 forts of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, the former circular permanent defence construction around the capital of The Netherlands. Like a hermetically sealed circle, this would be the last resistance in the defence of the country, and especially of Amsterdam. The Defence Line was prepared for a siege of about six months. The forts, batteries and bunkers where built around the year 1900. The possibility of inundation played a key role around this defence line, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
