The Netherlands-Assendelft
The "Assendelver Veenpolder" was once part of a regular polder ("Zuiderpolder"), but flooded after 40 years of peat exploitation, in the first half of the 19th century, After a lot of pumping the reclaimed land got the typical layout of what in The Netherlands is called a "droogmakerij".
