The Netherlands - Oudorp
View on the foundations of a former castle "De Nieuwburg", built by order of Floris V, Count of Holland and Zeeland. Floris built five strongholds in this region (in the period 1282-1287) to control the troublesome Frisians. In the year 1517 the castle was destroyed by Pier Gerlofs Donia, a Frisian rebel leader and pirate, best known by his West Frisian nickname Grutte Pier ("Big Pier"), which referred to his legendary size and strength.
