The Netherlands
View on the Amstel lake, that used to be a tidal channel between the Wadden Sea and (former) Zuider Sea. It separated the mainland of North-Holland from the (former) Island Wieringen, visible in the background. After the troublesome construction of the Amsteldiep dyke (± 1924) Wieringen lost its island-status and the water of the Amstel lake became brackish to fresh.
On the right side a part of the small village Van Ewijcksluis can be seen. On the left side the image shows a part of nature reserve "Balgzand", an important high tide refuge for birds.
Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line).
