The Netherlands-Kornwerderzand
Kornwerderzand is a settlement on the Afsluitdijk, a major dam in the Netherlands, that links the province Friesland with the province North Holland. It is situated on a former artificial island which was created during the construction of the 30 km long dike in 1932. Shipping locks at Kornwerderzand -not visible on this image- provide a shipping connection between Wadden Sea (foreground) and lake IJssel (background). Visible is a complex of discharge sluices that control the water level of lake IJssel.
The pier where I flew my kite, with the camera attached to the kite's line, is mainly overgrown with Sea kale (Zeekool-Crambe maritima). © Tom Kisjes
