Launching kite and camera (attached to the kite's line) near the spot where the Germans blew two holes in the IJsselmeer dyke on 17-04-1945, eighteen days before the end of World War II. Wieringermeer polder (visible in background) flooded within two days and forced desperate farmers and other inhabitants to leave their farms, land and other possessions.
In december 1945 the polder was dry again after dyke restoration and a lot of pumping. Leaving the dyke not as straight as he used to be. © Tom Kisjes
