Tricarico, loc. Serra del Cedro, Tomb 10
Bronze grater (4th cent. BCE)
Grattugio di bronzo (IV sec. a.C.)
These graters are a common element in Italic tombs of this region and period; they may have been imitating the Homeric description of a restorative drink of wine, cheese and flour (Iliad 11.638-40); graters are also found from the 9th cent. BCE in warrior tombs from Lefkandi in mainland Greece.
