During the strike the miners had setup a tent city where they were able to live (since the mining company evicted them of their company owned homes). Following the violence that erupted on April 20th, 1914 the tents were set ablaze (was it the militia? an accident?). The following day 2 women and 10 children were discovered in one of the cellars and had suffocated. This became known as 'the death pit'. This statue for the monument is placed right next to this pit which has a heavy latched door to keep it dry and critter free. Down the staircase and behind another door is where these offerings were found.

Musselshell County. The Musselshell post office building as seen in 2023. Located along the Musselshell River, east of Roundup, Musselshell takes its name from the river, which in turn was named by Lewis and Clark for the freshwater mussels found along the river. Musselshell began around 1880 with the establishment of a store here along the trail between Fort Custer and Fort Maginnis. A post office was established at Musselshell in 1883 (March 27) with Lawrence Reed as postmaster. In 2013 (April 6), the Musselshell post office became an RMPO of Roundup.
