Kite Aerial Photography at Burning Man 2011

This image is of Center Camp at Burning Man 2011. This image was taken about a half hour before sundown. The sun sinks into the horizon faster in Nevada than it does in Seattle, as such I had very little time to work with the available light.

The wind was quite variable, and nearly did not have enough power to lift my camera. I had to land the rig twice in order to prevent the kite from falling out of the sky, which was a big exercise in logistics. Trying to keep the camera itself from touching the playa surface while managing a kite that was sinking over theme camps and residential areas meant I frequently employed the help of random passers by. Fortunately it's Burning Man, and most everyone was happy to help. This image was taken during the first lofting of the kite.
