The robins are very nice birds underappreciated in my opinion because they are so common. But I must admit that the black-headed grosbeak is a real treat. I mentioned earlier how I not only look for birds but listen to them when in the field. The sound of the black-headed grosbeak is very similar to the one of the Robin and to me represent a real signal that Spring is here. They are hard to see as they perch very high in trees. I started hearing them several weeks ago during my walks but only had the pleasure to see them over the last couple of days. I have been able to hear them and see them in several locations around Victoria and they seem to be more numerous this year than in previous years.
