Nine Mile Pond, Everglades National Park

Kinda desperate for some landscape shooting I egged Ivan on to head out to the Glades this weekend. Without him I probably wouldn't have dragged myself out of bed. It always sounds like such a good idea in the evening, but when your alarm goes off at 3:30 AM (4:30 after switching to daylight saving time) it doesn't seem to be such a great plan after all.

Anyway, my idea was to check out Nine Mile Pond rather than my usual Long Pine Key lake. When we got there it was still pitch black so I set up blindly for some long exposures and I had to realize I don't know my equipment as well as I thought I do. Instead of setting the lens to infinity I had it at close up... ha, ha. So my first 200+ second exposures were a tad out-of-focus.

I finally got it right, but by then it was already getting lighter. So this is "only" a 101 second exposure. The orange cast to the left is I believe from city lights from distant Florida City. The sun later was rising in the center-right of this shot, there where it's already getting brighter.
