These plants are only found at altitudes above 3,100m and can grow up to 9m in height. They dominate the Afroalpine landscape as they grow much larger than any of the other plants. This shot was taken on the Sanetti Plateau (at around 4,000m) which is one of the coldest places I have ever been… sub-zero temperatures and howling winds quickly chill you to the bone!

This shot was taken shortly after the sun had set. I used a 10-stop ND filter to blur the clouds.
