Lake Isabelle July 2008 - While Kevin and Elise were in town for a few days, we went on a couple short hikes where the goal was to end up at a good place to have lunch. We succeeded. Lake Isabelle is the most beautiful place in Boulder County (according to me).
While we were sitting on the rock by the lake, an iceberg floated by. It was long enough to almost connect the shore to the large iceberg a bit off shore. The iceberg was moving quickly enough that there wasn't time to think. On an impulse I got up and dove belly first like a penguin onto the iceberg. The belly dive was to distribute my weight and avoid the possibility of slipping by landing on my feet. It worked, but Kevin told me later that it looked like my momentum would take me right off the other side and into the water.
I quickly stood up and ran to the end and jumped to the big iceberg. About this time I realized how cold the ice was on my bare feet. As I ran along the iceberg, I could see that it wasn't actually connected to land on the far end.
I was naively hoping that it would connect to land where I couldn't see around the bend. I only had to get wet up to my waist, and Kevin walked around and met me with my shoes and socks which were very welcome at this point. Enough excitement for one day.
Megan has pictures of these antics on flickr. I've added a couple here.
