Sharkstooth June 2007 - Kevin and Elise drove down for a weekend in Boulder so I took Kevin up Sharkstooth on Saturday. It was my third successful attempt on the spire, all by the same route. The others were September 2001 with Scott and July 2005 with Tom. It was Kevin's first rock climb in RMNP and only the second alpine climb (roped rock climb) that Kevin and I have attempted together. Our other was the long north ridge on Lone Pine Peak in September 2002. There were fewer roped pitches on that route, the climbing wasn't as hard, but it's pretty spectacular being ~11,000 feet above Owens Valley.
Since neither of us had climbed much recently, the roped pitches went somewhat slowly. However, Kevin's a strong, fast hiker. We ended getting back to the car after 11 hours, the same amount of time it took on my two previous trips to the Sharkstooth summit.

The snow was pretty hard first thing in the morning. Kevin felt better wearing yak trax over his tennis shoes on the steep sections. I had stiff boots and was comfortable with those and the sticks.

The route goes up the obvious line in the center of the photo, eventually ending up in the large crack near the skyline in the center of the photo.
