Margys January 2007 - Birgit put together another group to another hut last weekend. This time it was Margys Hut near Aspen. We started at the Lenado trailhead above Woody Creek. It turned out to be a cold weekend. However, it was much warmer in the mountains than in Boulder, where Julie stayed. It also turned out to be a weekend of fantastic snow.
We skied up Friday, then it snowed about 12 inches Friday night. The snow continued lightly on Saturday and Sunday, accumulating another 3-6 inches. The sun didn't come out those days, and it didn't get much above 20°F so the snow stayed in great shape. I think it was the best skiing I've done from a hut.
16 folks were on the trip: Megan, Jeff, Dave, and I skied up together; Birgit, Ramone, Yvonne, Jonas, Lisa, Paul, Coy, Wendy, Jonathon, Bryan, Keith, and Peter all arrived at the hut before we did. Jeff, Dave, and I stayed one extra night, Sunday night, when the temperature plunged to -25°F as the clouds cleared while the sun went down. Most of the photos I have are of those two on Monday, the only day the sun came out, revealing incredible mountain views. It warmed up to a comfortable (in the sun) 5°F.
