This past spring/summer I had high hopes of finally capturing some great Common Loon images. After a few years of scouting I thought for sure I had at least two great locations for potential images. Sadly the loons never used the locations for breeding and all hopes were lost. One beautiful morning while out photographing song birds along a large pond two loons began to approach at close range. I belly crawled up to the waters edge and fired off a few frames. When I first reviewed the shots a couple months ago I didn't really feel the images nor did I see the potential in this shot. After having edited other species in back lit situations I finally returned to this shot and feel more comfortable with the edit; it has now become an image I can be happy with.
