Great Egret with a San Diegan Legless Lizard at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. A first for me, heard many times of Legless Lizards but this is the first time I ever got this close to seeing one. Inaturalist.org confirmed the ID of this lizard.
According to livescience.com :
"Legless lizards are not snakes. ... Further, serpents don't have eyelids or external ears, while most lizards do. And many legless lizards actually have tiny vestigial limbs, while snakes generally sport no external appendages at all. There also tend to be big ecological differences between snakes and limbless lizards"

Snowy Egrets settling a dispture over a fishing hotspot, this is what happened next from the previous picture, I'll spare you the stabbing and drowning picture. Fortunately, the one in the bottom made it to safety.
