The Acadian flag is a descendant of the French flag, just as the Acadians are descended from the French. The difference is the gold star, the Stella Maris, which is a symbol of the Virgin Mary in her capacity of protecting seafarers. The flag appears all over the Maritimes, in forms both small and large.
