Another shot from Utah.
In May there was a convergence of Nature Photographer's Network folks in Moab. We were troubled with uninspiring skies for the most part but it was great meetup and I visited a couple of new locations which were fantastic.
I cropped this pretty tight to exclude the boring sky, a road in the (cropped) foreground and to capture a little of the reflection in the river. Let me know what you think about it.

I've been shooting a lot less and have had even less time to process my images so I have to go waaaay back to the beginning of the year and catch up.
I've wanted to shoot Mesa Arch in winter for a while so at the beginning of January I got my chance. I rushed out to Moab and got this the morning of January 2. It was about -10 degrees with a good 8" of fresh snow on the ground. A much different environment than spring, which is when I usually go and worth the trip. I hope to get back out there next winter and do some more exploring.
I've got a lot of photos to process and share so keep an eye on my photostream for more shots from Utah, Sand Dunes National Park, Monte Vista NWR and other Colorado locations.

Unsurprisingly, I was compelled to pull out a camp chair and just sit there, taking in the view.
Of course, it had me so intoxicated I forgot I needed to stay for sunset but this didn't turn out too badly considering the late afternoon light and cloudless sky.

Another in my effort to learn from capturing iconic locations, aka reverse engineering.
This location is a few miles outside of Marble, Colorado down a Jeep trail. Outside of the photographic aspects, this was a cool place to hang out while I waited for the light to come around. When the front was finally lit, the light was extremely bright and took some work in post to smooth things out.

An iconic fall view. I highly recommend this location at sunrise in the fall. The side-lighting is just amazing and even if you are not a photographer it's worth experiencing the morning sun light up the aspen grove. It's just a great spot.
