Whenever I enter Mount Rainier National Park via the Stevens Canyon entrance, I always stop at the Falls Creek pullout to photograph this waterfall. Depending upon the time of the year, it can be at full throttle, or a mere trickle, as evidenced by a September shot I uploaded awhile back. I also love photographing this waterfall because of the play of light and shadow, and the many shades of green. Plus, it's good exercise for me in getting in a few "silky water" shots. During this particular instance, it was also good practice working with my new medium format Pentax 645z.

Celui-ci est beaucoup plus sombre que les autres, peut-être est ce un charbonnier, espérons qu'il survive assez longtemps pour m'en rendre compte....

We've all heard a winding river used as a metaphor for the many twists and turns that our lives often take. If my life is a river, I'd like to think it would be the Firehole. The river runs through steaming geyser basins, across meadows and forests full of wildlife, down delicate cascades and over rough rapids. It also carved a deep impression in my young imagination about wild places and natural wonder. I've visited often over the years, trying to somehow capture the river's unusual character. I'm anxious to try again--it's never long before my thoughts and my travels wander back to the banks of the Firehole.
