Just back from an amazing week away in Iceland. Lots of adventures, banter and a bit of photography thrown in for good measure. We spent a lot of time at Vesturhorn as conditions were changing every day and it would have been rude not to. Happily to report no injuries to any in our party although my mental state will never be the same again on many levels!!! The weather was great apart from the evening walk back from the plane but thats another story for another time......

I wandered down Wolfscote Dale and climbed up from the valley bottom up the slope to the right in this shot. These clouds were coming in from the left and a mad dash got me to this spot a few seconds before this wonderful light was snuffed out

Woodland photography is easy..

…You just need to find the right trees.

Over the last few months I’ve been working on a woodland scouting tutorial and I have finally put the finished touches to it. It’s available to read here willplunkett.photo/scouting tutorial

It is a description of my woodland workflow on how I go from finding a woodland to scout to the finished images I create.

I talk about how I use online resources such as google maps, os maps and a mobile phone camera to find and then catalogue trees and scenes that I will return to make images from.

If you already enjoy woodland photography or are just taking an interest, go take a look and let me know what you think.

The image above is one I found whilst scouting a woodland buried deep within the north York moors national park and I have found many more using the tools I discuss during the tutorial.

I also offer 1-2-1 or small group workshops where we will go into scouting in more detail and I will show you some of my favourite woodlands. We will discuss composition and the elements required to make meaningful images. A link to my workshops can be found here willplunkett.photo/workshop

The sunset on Normandy Hill was good tonight and I used a bush to add interest to the sunset taking place in the background. Whilst it looked beautiful, the weather was cold.
