I don't think they will win any beauty contest, but they are interesting. They take months, if not years, to make nest mounds of stones and weeds. Laguna Machuca. Near threatened.

We found one at Laguna Chaxa in the scorching hot and bright sun.

Tiny grebe that generally stayed far away from the edge of the water. But finally got one to come within a reasonable range and in the right direction for the light to show off the red eye. No points for guessing how it got its name.
