A common species distributed widely from India, through Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, northern Malaysia, Vietnam, and southern China. It is a large butterfly with a wingspan of 75-95mm. The species is both sexually and seasonally dimorphic. The rarely seen female looks very different to the male and this difference is even greater in the dry season form. Females tend to spend their time in the forest canopy but the males love to puddle and are therefore the ones most often seen.
Habitat is evergreen and moist deciduous forest. Known larval foodplants are Adenia pierriei and Adenia hondala (Passifloraceae).

All my insect pics are handheld single shots of live animals, usually in the wild.
