Order : Lepidoptera
Family : Pieridae
SubFamily : Pierinae
Genus : Ixias
Species : Ixias pyrene yunnanensis

This uncommon species is a medium sized butterfly with a wingspan of 45-55mm. Distributed from Sri Lanka, through India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and southern China. Habitat is varied and includes rainforest, humid deciduous forest, dry forest, scrub, and stream banks, at elevations up to around 1000m asl. I do not have any information on how many broods there are but the species is multivoltine and flies throughout the year. Both sexes nectar on a wide variety of flowers and males frequent damp ground to puddle for minerals.
The larval foodplants include Capparis zeylanica, Capparis divaricata and Capparis sepiaria (Capparidaceae)

All my insect pics are single, handheld shots of live insects in wild situations.
