Order : Lepidoptera
Family : Nymphalidae
SubFamily : Cyrestinae
Genus : Cyrestis
Species : Cyrestis themire themire

This is the smallest of the Cyrestinae 'map' butterflies with a wingspan of 35-45mm. Distribution is from Myanmar, through Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is said to be common but I have only ever seen this one individual during all the trips that I have done to Thailand. Habitat is primary and secondary rainforest where it is most frequently encountered in clearings within the forest. Both sexes are identical in appearance and fly slowly by gliding interspersed by rapid wing beats. They often settle on the undersides of leaves and males often puddle on stream banks.
Known larval foodplants are Ficus obscura, Ficus racemosa, and Streblus ilicifolius (Moraceae). It is probably multivoltine as it flies throughout the year in some parts of its range.

All my insect pics are single, handheld shots of live insects in wild situations.
