This is a fairly large and uncommon species that measures up to 65mm in length. It is found in Morocco, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Germany, and France. Flight time is from late April to September. Habitat is usually near running water or large lakes. This species usually has 13 larval instars and a 3 year life cycle. Research has revealed a high mortality in final instar larvae (up to 99%) during winter.
