Family : Lycaenidae
Sub-Family : Polyommatinae
Species : Catochrysops strabo strabo
A widely distributed species that is found in Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, China, and Japan. It is a small butterfly with a wingspan of just 24-30mm. It frequents open sunny areas with low vegetation in a wide range of habitats from forest
edges to urban gardens at altitudes up to around 800m asl. It is very active and is often seen in large numbers. Both sexes feed on nectar from flowers including Lantana sp. (Verbenaceae) and Tridax procumbens (Asteraceae).
Larval foodplants include Cajanus indicusm, Phyllodium longipes, Cylista scariosa, Desmodium heterocarpon (Fabaceae), and Schleichera oleosa (Sapindaceae). Like many other Lycaenid species the larvae are attended by ants.
All my insect pics are single, handheld shots of live insects in wild situations.
