Family : Nymphalidae
Sub-Family : Danainae
Species : Parantica melaneus

This is an uncommon species that is distributed from India, through Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, southern China, and peninsular Malaysia. It is a medium-large butterfly with a wingspan of 75-85mm. Primarily a forest species, it is found in montane forests up to an altitude of around 3000m asl.
The larval foodplant is Tylophora indica (Asclepiadaceae) (Indian Ipecac), a slender branched climbing herb used as a medicine in some regions to treat asthma and certain allergic reactions.

All my insect pics are single, handheld shots of live insects in wild situations.
