I haven't touched my camera for months and so I decided I should give it, and myself, an airing just to make sure that everything was working okay (on the both of us !) and to keep my hand in before the start of the new butterfly season.
I therefore went to our local butterfly farm to see what I could find. As butterfly farms go I'm afraid our local one is not very good and there wasn't very much to see. However, there were one or two nice species in good condition that were worth photographing. I managed to get a couple of good shots despite the poor light and so I decided to break with tradition and post one of them here. As you know, all my shots are usually taken in the wild and so I have to stress that this little beauty is captive bred and will live its short life entirely within the confines of the farm.
This is not an Asian or European species and so I don't know very much about it but in my eyes it is very beautiful and thought I should share it. It is evidently fairly common in sub-Saharan Africa and is in fact a sister species to one of our most beautiful Thailand species, Papilio demoleus.
