Doi Suthep-Pui NP, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Family : Lycaenidae
Sub-Family : Polyommatinae
Species : Leptotes plinius

This species is widespread across south and south east Asia extending as far as China. There are wet and dry season forms but both are very similar with the dry form being just a little paler in colour. It is a small butterfly with a wingspan up to 23mm. The upperside of the male is a puplish-blue while the female is brown with white markings. The underside of both sexes is similar.
Preferred habitat seems to be open woodland where the larvae feed on plants of the Legume family, Plumbaginaceae and some of the citrus family Rutaceae. They are also seen, like this one, puddling on the banks of mountain streams.

All my insect pics are single shot and handheld, usually in the wild.
