This is a spot I've visited many times over, but I've never seen conditions quite like this. While drought conditions can tough on our California landscape, it also can bring out some unique visual opportunities.

While visiting Banff, one of the most interesting things I saw was how the Canadian National Parks System does not remove fallen trees. When I asked a park official about that, he said that they want a natural ecosystem and allow the fallen trees to remain where they are unless they are blocking a road or pathway.

While I went early to get a view of the night lights on a castle like hotel, I was more than surprised to be greeted by an unsuspecting sunset over the Bow River.

Stopping part of the way up the classical Peyto Lake hiking trail, to just watch the clouds form between the rocky mountains and provide a unique cover to the wolf shaped, glacier-fed lake.
