Lac des Arcs is a hamlet located opposite Exshaw, on the other side of the Bow River. This area is not far into the mountains as one drives westwards from Calgary. Highway 1 (the Trans-Canada Highway) borders Lac des Arcs on the south. It is located at an elevation of 1,320 meters (4,331 ft). This lake, that goes under the same name, attracts wind surfers and fishermen, and the north shore hosts the Lafarge Exshaw Plant, a limestone quarry (which is off to the right of my photo.

Yesterday, I was invited to go with friends to Lake Louise, out past Banff, and we stopped at Lac des Arcs to take a few photos. I love the patterns and shadows of these mountain slopes. As you can see, the weather was beautiful (apart from being very cold at Lake Louise), around +10C. I think we have passed on our bitter winter weather to those living in eastern Canada - sorry, everyone : ) Honest!

Taken on a walk near the Bow Valley Ranch, Fish Creek Park, on 9th January. All the bushes were covered in frost and the sun was shining beautifully. We've just had a few wonderfully mild, sunny days but, unless the forecast has changed, temperatures will drop tomorrow and more snow is on the way, yet again ... sigh!

I saw this beautiful view yesterday when I was driving a few of the tiny side roads off Highway 22X west. I believe this was along 85th St. SW. I liked the white of the nearest snowy hills and the row of bare-branched trees in the foreground. Rocky Mountains seen in the distance. It almost didn't seem "real" : )

A bright splash of colour to brighten a rural, winter scene. I liked the black silhouette of the horse against the red. Seen along 85th St. SW, just south of Highway 22X. I love red barns, LOL!

This is what we drove through on 27th January, on our way to the Langdon area east of Calgary! We were hoping to see a Snowy Owl or two, but we were out of luck for those. In places, the weather was awful, with blowing snow drifting across the road and resulting in very low visibility. I sharpened this image the full amount, to give it a slight texture to bring out the rather soft tree silhouettes. I might just delete it, however, as I know there is little to it - couldn't decide whether to upload it or not.
