I took a trip to Durham at the weekend to see the Cathedral and the castle when I saw this bird drying its wings on a log by the river Wear. I think it is a Cormorant but I am not great with types of birds. There is a brass sculpture of one of these in the Cathedral so they must be a regular local sight. I like the detail on the feathers. It was almost as if he was posing for the shot!

This is a statue in the center of Durham. I loved the way the light caught it so I couldnt resist taking a photo. When playing around in Photomatix I thought this one made a good HDR photo.

Recently almost made it into the hall of fame in You vs. the Best. This photo beat 3 challengers and was pipped on the 4th. Better luck next time...

This is a tone mapped HDR view of the Millenium bridge with the Sage Gateshead behind and the Tyne Bridge in the distance.

See if you can spot the difference (an object) between this photo and this photo.

Patience was required for this shoot. There was a tree about 5 meters from the bird feeder which I was hiding behind. After about 20 minutes some birds started to come to feast so I snapped them with my zoom lens. I think this wee guy heard the shutter from the previous photo. Isn't he cute?
