A friend of mine agreed to spare me the pain of staring at my 50mm and not use it, by allowing me to take a photo of her. The setting was great as her place seems to get enough light around the afternoon, and plus it was cloudy...so not many shadows.
I really like the expression in the photo, a subtle smile. I've never been a big fan of girls (or more disturbingly, guys) who pose for the camera because...i don't know but...i feel like it gives the photo such an unnatural feel. I'd prefer to take a shot of a person at the exact millisecond they look into the camera after staring at something else. I think that way the expression looks more natural, as opposed to the awkward smile that some people don't realize they're expressing before a photo.
I do realize the background is somewhat of a distraction, and also the composition might seem a little too loose for a portrait. After all, this is my first ever attempt at taking a portrait photo. I have another copy of this photo, except it's in color with some touch up, i.e. skin smoothing, removing blemishes etc, but i don't think i'll be uploading it.
Hopefully i get another shot at portrait photography. So far, i'm enjoying the experience :)

FINALLY got myself the 50mm f/1.8, a.k.a. the "nifty-fifty".
I don't really see how i can own this lens and NOT take portraits. All i've ever liked taking was long exposure stuff. I guess it's time i started reading up on portrait photography.
I took this photo in my room a few hours after i woke up. The window in my room is facing east, so i get plenty of sunlight in the mornings. I gave it a slight bluish-gray tint using CS5. Got the idea from one of them Armin Van Buuren album covers (ASOT 2008 to be precise) from when i used to listen to trance music.
I'm hoping portrait photography turns out to be more interesting than i give it credit for.
And i don't know why, but my head looks kinda disproportionately bigger in this photo, lol!

Took this photo out of total boredom (which shouldn't surprise many). It's a shot of my Khanjar key chain that i bought when i was back in Abu Dhabi.
All i ever knew about the Khanjar was that it's a dagger since I don't really know much about this stuff, but according to Wikipedia, the Khanjar is an Omani dagger, while the Yemenis call it a Janbia.

Seeing how there's nothing interesting to snap, i thought i should upload some of the photos that i never felt like uploading.
This would be the the un-tinted version of the Burj Khalifa/Gotham City photo i uploaded long ago. I think i might have applied some surface blur on this photo at some point, because it sure does look like it. Why did i blur it, however, is beyond me, lol!.
Would have been nice if the photo was more sharper, not to mention more wider too as opposed to this narrow crop.
You can take a look at this photo through Fluidr here, i think it would look much better.

Ah yes. Nothing beats the nice chilly winter Abu Dhabi morning. I think it was 7 in the morning when i took this photo. This photo always makes me feel a bit homesick. Abu Dhabi is just awesome during winter, and i miss it soo much :(
Once again, it was quite windy so the (ever so useless) tripod didn't do much at keeping the camera still. Kinda wish i had a second shot at taking this photo. Since i got a much better tripod now and also know where i can find a better spot; i think i can make a much better photo out of this.
