Early morning light kisses the top of the Watchman in Zion National Park. Yes - it's a much photographed spot and yes - there were other photographers there that morning, but hey - it was my first time!

As is the case most evenings, there were several photographers lined up along the bridge over the Virgin River in Zion National Park, waiting for a light show to appear over the Watchman. We waited patiently as the clouds moved about and it looked very promising as the light began to fade (we photographers are the eternal optimists!). Alas it was not to be. I decided I was going to stay for a while and get a blue hour shot while others were beginning to pack up. The gentleman next to me glanced over his shoulder, quickly picked up his gear and calmly said, "you might want to turn around." Glad he said so and glad I did! Thanks for the advice!

Along the Emerald Pools trail in Zion National Park. While the water flows were smaller than I had hoped for, the lushness and vibrant colors of the springtime foliage was still really beautiful.

A scraggly tree and shrubs cling to a precarious existence in the eastern part of Zion National Park. Even though this was our first trip, Zion quickly became one of my favorite parks and I am already planning my next trip. There are so many different ecosystems to explore and the photo opportunities seem endless.

Hikers cross a footbridge across the Virgin River leading to some of the incredible hiking trails in Zion National Park.

I can now understand the popularity of this parkas it quickly became my favorite stop of our trip, with magnificent canyon rock formations, diverse ecosystems and animal life, making it a photographer's paradise.
