A Canada Goose gosling marches along with its two siblings as mom and dad stand guard. I was so close to them I could not fit the three of them in the frame - one of the disadvantages of a prime lens. I am also surprised I was tolerated the way I was by the parents but I think it was because I was seated on the ground before they came towards me and I made no attempt to move closer. They started in shadow and as they walked along they moved into the light which made for a really nice dark background. If you view large you can see a spider with a midge in its clutches in the lower left part of the frame - not sure how I caught that!

With two nests nearby, this adult green heron was no doubt taking a break from either egg sitting or foraging for hungry little mouths.

Taken at Ding Darling NWR.

A roseate spoonbill rises out of the shallow pond and leaves a trailing of mud off of its feet as it takes off in early morning light.

One of the great joys in life for me and my wife is walking the beach. For her, it is finding the perfect shell(s). For me it's all about the birds!

One of my favorites is the brown pelican. If I see one, chances are there will be a few (or more) clicks of the shutter involved. They are very graceful in the air, gliding along singly or in groups. Graceful is not the way I would describe a typical pelican take-off. It's more like lumbering - lots of splashing, wing flapping and I guess running to get their bulk into the air. This one started his run in front of me so I could get various poses as it was getting into the air.

Needless to say, I have LOTS of pelican shots to rummage through. They all make me smile!

Thanks so much for your views, likes and comments - they are greatly appreciated!
