SR West Country 4-6-2 7P6F 34027 'Taw Valley' passes Sandycroft in July 1988.
The light isn't exactly favourable but it's a record shot of the gantry at least.
By 1988 I was taking very few steam photos and family circumstances required a reduction in my photography. I rarely ventured away from the Chester area for such events.
A much better shot with the sun in a favourable position can be found at: www.vanguardpublications.co.uk/tomderrington/40044_Sandyc...

I could equally have entitled this photo a case of open or shut!
An unidentified Brush class47 heads into Shrewsbury from the Hereford direction and passes the Shelf Sidings circa July 1987.
The site of the sidings is now a housing estate!

Brush Type4's 47333 and 47285 pass through Shrewsbury circa 1981
A third class47 is on the rear. Difficult to imagine but I'd never noticed this loco before.
As the train is hardly lengthy I'm now wondering if it was removing a wagon at the rear. Anyone any ideas.
47333 was a Crewe based loco as of 10-80. It retained the same number throughout it's career. Cut-up ~ C.F.Booth, Rotherham ~ June 1998.
47285 was allocated to Bristol Bath Road in 6-77 and stayed until 10-87 when it transferred to Tinsley. Cut-up ~ Ron Hull Jr, Rotherham ~ February 2005.
This reminds me of a visit to Chasewater in Cornwall to photograph double-headed 50's and can be seen at www.vanguardpublications.co.uk/tomderrington/50001_50032_... Again I had no knowledge at the time that a Peak was in the cement depot siding even though I spent well over 30 minutes there. Even with it's engine off it seemed far too big not to notice.
