6998 Burton Agnes Hall approaches Newland East signal box on 24-6-73.

The up line is out of use presumably for weekend engineering work. The down refuge siding appears to be rarely used, though it was still there into the late 80's or possibly early 90's.

In 1973 I had little idea that I would live nearby several decades later. Though I did live in Malvern briefly at the end of 1979.

The signal box is still in use as are the semaphores.

Turbo 166201 approaches Malvern Link by the foot crossing for the 'America's' Playing Fields on 28-10-22 .
The working is the 2V58 0823 Southampton Central to Great Malvern and running 6 minutes late.

Today the foot crossing gives a much clearer safer view and has the benefit of traffic lights!

FGW [First Great Western livery] has now been removed from the Network. In addition there are no daytime Turbo's to Malvern. Passengers for Bristol and beyond have now to change at Worcester. Some people might call this progress?

45048 'The Royal Marines' passes Tuffley Junction, Gloucester on 6-5-75
The working is the 1V96 15.33 York to Bristol Temple Meads

An old Agfa slide with quite a lot of purple splodges most of which I have been able to remove.

Part of the Tom Derrington Collection with photographer unknown.

I was taking photos at this time but not at Gloucester!
So many missed opportunities!

LNWR 0-6-2T 'Coal Tank' heads over the Shropshire Union Canal and the Northgate locks with a support coach on 12-9-86. [Though the canal is not visible]

This was taken early in the morning. The mystery if there is one is where was it going? The Stephenson Locomotive Society
(W.A. 'Cam' Camwell 80th Birthday Surprise) was not until the 18th October and worked Shrewsbury to Stockport. so it is unlikely it was heading for Shrewsbury for stabling.
Of course it could be that I wrote the date down wrong. However I remember the special was on a pretty dull day and I travelled from Worcester and was not in Chester until late in the afternoon when I think it had started to rain.
