Since 2010 the Almere Stad library is housed in a new building on the Stadhuisplein, designed by architects Meyer en Van Schooten. Besides the collection the library also houses a theatre/cinema, a gaming circle, a lunch café, a classroom/workshop, conference rooms and a study centre with study cells.

The Wave
The scaly facades of this expressive design are made up of zinc-clad flat panels. The dwellings are arranged in 6 storeys, and appear to slide out of the facade like partly open matchboxes. The outward bulge is strongest on the side facing the water, and it casts a wave-shaped shadow on the facade surface. Van Zuuk’s buildings usually have a feather-light appearance, but the substantial mass of this building unequivocally marks the boundary of land and water.
