Built in 1877 as a residence for lumber tycoon Joseph van Buskirk, the Springport Inn is a Michigan Historic Site located just south of the city of Harrisville along Highway US 23, situated on a bluff overlooking Lake Huron. In 1918, this mansion was acquired by Carl Schmidt, who converted the structure to the Springport Resort, a luxury hotel. In 1949 the building changed ownership and for many years was known as the Springport Inn and Restaurant and then simply the Springport Inn, a bed and breakfast establishment.
