I walked in one of my favorite parks in Kuala Lumpur, the Taman Tasik Perdana, Lake Gardens. The lake was formed in 1888 when a dam was constructed to control the waters of the creek, Sungai Bras-Bras. Today it remains one of the nicest parks of the city.
Here's a Peacock Pansy, Junonia almana. It's licking away on the foliage of a Straits Rhododendron, Melastoma malabathricum. Just look at that marvellous tongue. Quite yellow-orange and thus belying the Latin name of our plant, Melastoma, derived from the Greek for Black or Dark Tongue. It came by that name because the pulp of the edible fruits stains your mouth blue or almost black (
