Well, Physocephala means something like Thick-headed or Club-headed; and hence in Dutch this handsome Fly's common name is 'Knuppeltje', Small Cudgel or Club. Here he is, though, clubbing it alone on Hemp Agrimony, Eupatorium cannabinum.
Eupatorium is named for Mithridates VI Eupator (135-63 BCE), king of Pontus and of many regions around just about all of the Black Sea and in southern Turkey, northern Syria and Iraq. He wanted more, Big-Headed as he was, but he lost out to Rome and in the end was forced into suicide.
