A view into our back garden as we enjoyed, more likely endured, one of our dawn-to-dusk rainy days a week ago. But I did get to see a couple of very impressive waterfalls as a result 😄

Corby's Letch falls looking & sounding very full after days of rain (now thankfully behind us, it seems).
"Letch" has a second, much more wholesome, meaning in Northumberland: a stream or a pool found in boggy land, and there's been bog a'plenty over winter and what is passing off as spring.
Click below to see the falls looking less full but possibly more graceful.

A really clear example of one of the rings of the cup and ring formations found near Routin Linn waterfall in North Northumberland. An earth mound encircles a large hill-fort with a rocky outcrop with numerous cup and ring markings.

Apparently there are over a thousand examples of prehistoric art in Northumberland dating back to Neolithic and Early Bronze Ages between 6000 and 3500 years ago.
There's a comprehensive and fascinating article on prehistoric rock art at www.bradshawfoundation.com/british_isles_prehistory_archi...

Towards the end of January I decided to record on the Strava app the distance I covered when walking our dog each day. Over the course of the next week Strava told me that they usually varied between 2.5 and 3 miles (which is about what I would have guessed as I'm normally out for around an hour or so). But what I wouldn't have guessed is the amount of 'up' that I 'climbed' - somewhere between 250 and 300 feet each walk.

A bit of very simple, but to me very surprising, maths showed that around 100 such walks would see me climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest from sea level (it's measured at 29032 ft/8848m), and that it would only take about 100 days or approx 3 months to do it! (Nerdy, or what?!)

Today's dog walk (the 97th since I started measuring) took me past that figure (to 29150ft) and I was rewarded with a celebratory rainbow just after starting out!
And the good news is that, unlike Everest summiteers, I've already done the most dangerous bit ie the descent :)

As for the photo - this is a view over Alnwick with the castle under the left end of the rainbow and St. Paul's church highlighted.

Routin Linn is one of Northumberland's hidden gems since it is located away from any centres of population or major roads. But it is worth the effort seeking it out, which is what I did last Friday after we'd had a quite a lot of rain. I wasn't disappointed.

I also took a short video - here flic.kr/p/2pHG1fn
