Wood Lane Countryside Centre is a stunning Georgian Farmhouse nestled between the Loxley and Rivelin Valleys in the North West of Sheffield.
Set in tranquil wooded gardens it is a haven for wildlife
and has a fascinating history as a building. It was built
over 200 years ago for William Armitage Esq. who
was a partner of the famous Mousehole Forge,
the world leaders in Anvil production.

Just thought I'd post a picture of my work base for any one who is interested in Georgian buildings. It is not a case of showing off, just the fact that I consider myself so lucky to have a job like mine and it's only when I show new volunteers around the house that I realise what a beautiful piece of architecture it is

As early as the 8th century BC, young mallow shoots were eaten as a vegetable; and the practice persisted into Roman times. The orator Cicero complained that the dish was giving him indigestion; the poet Martial used it to dispel his hangovers after orgies; and the naturalist Pliny found that mallow sap mixed with water would give him day-long protection against aches and pains.
In medieval days, when there was widespread belief in the efficacy of love potions, mallow had a reputation as an anti-aphrodisiac, promoting calm, sober conduct. More recently, mallow leaves were used to draw out wasp stings, and the gummy sap was made into poultices and soothing ointments.
This specimen differs from the usual pink flowered variety and is in my garden.

This might be my last post for a few days as me and my wife are off to Scarborough in the morning, just hope the weather holds out now

I'm getting a bit fed up with all the dreary weather we're having at the moment, so I thought I'd post this for a change from last Summer
