This shot was taken in the fading light just after sunset this April.
This is one of three Great-horned Owlets that have all fledged. Some of its down feathers are still sticking around but it is growing and getting the distinctive adult plumage pattern on its wings and back.
Even from a distance, this young owl's gaze is penetrating. Its mother is sitting just meters away to the left, but I could not fit the two of them in the same frame with the telephoto lens.
