This is an image captured fairly recently at a pond in the region. Not exactly a candid dog walk type picture because I had gone armed with a monopod and the intention of capturing some 'in-flight' bird action. And, as I recall, I didn't actually have my dog with me either!

You may never get to see them but on the day I did indeed manage to snap quite a few in-flight shots, many acceptably sharp and some even fairly well framed.

However, as always seems to happen when I do this sort of photography, the action is frequently heard before seen and when seen it is rarely in the direction the camera is pointing. So on this occasion I raced (I use that term loosely!), to where the action was whilst collecting several shots of blue sky, the ground and my index finger along the way. I arrived just in time to snap a few just like this one.

The few, just like this one, were initially rejected because they ended up being shot through the branches of some trees which created all sorts of artifacts, reflections, focus and exposure problems as you can see.

Ordinarily, I would immediately bin shots with burnt out areas or focus issues straight away but having analysed all the 'technically good' shots, this imperfect picture captured in an imperfect way had far more art, atmosphere and mood than any of the clinically sharp images from the same shoot.

So that's my excuse!

A pair of Swans make their way to a better patch of the Harbour.

I've been trying to capture some in-flight Swan images in recent weeks and this is as good, or interesting, as it gets for the moment. It was a rather grey day which tended to influence what I could get away with using the RX10 and it's small sensor size.

When conditions are perfect this camera can take cracking images but in non-optimum conditions, it does seem to struggle with grain, especially when the ISO is increased and the lens is maxed out as it was here. Getting rid of grain in post tends to lose fine detail so always a trade off.

That said, I quite like this image and I'll put it down as a marker until I can snap something better.

As you can see, I am struggling to come up with a name for yet another sunset image! It's my own fault for posting them but goodness me it can be a challenge coming up with something unique or vaguely appropriate. If someone can come up with a better title (excluding the obvious ' utter rubbish' or 'yet another sunset pic'), I'll be pleased to edit the title accordingly!

I do attempt to mix up my gallery and postings a bit but living close to the coast, seascapes and suchlike are always going to be a bit of a running theme.

Apologies over, yes, this is another from my flying camera period. I still periodically take the drone out to stretch its wings but not often in the winter months. Rarely do I find conditions like there was on this day.
