this delightful and graceful bird was a visitor many early mornings enjoying the fruits of the ever-changing tides..

The tricolored heron (Egretta tricolor) formerly known in North America as the Louisiana heron, is a small heron. It is a resident breeder from the Gulf states of the USA and northern Mexico south through Central America and the Caribbean to central Brazil and Peru.
A long-necked heron with a long pointed yellowish or greyish bill with a black tip. The legs on this one were bright green and feet were dark. The colors in the feathers

Tricolored heron stalks its prey in shallow or deeper water, often running as it does so. It eats fish, crustaceans, reptiles, and insects.

the first day we arrived late afternoon we made a trip down this dock six times...needless to say we got our exercise.the small white dot in the center our cottage was all alone on the OTHER END...
Edisto's history dates as far back as 1570 when the Spanish missionaries arrived to convert the Edisto Indians...The indians sold the land to the English in 1683 moved off the island and resettled near Port Royal..

this was one of my favorites taken with a 70-200 lens that I LOVE!!! Its a Tamron 2.8 and I researched long and hard before my decision..the bokeh sold me compared to other brands with cost also being a factor....see this dreamy background...it looks like something I would have painted in a watercolor class ...soft and diffused almost to the point of looking painted.I did up the contrast just a bit..this was the tri-colored heron in the images a few back on my stream...same lens just a slower shutter speed....promise I will show more of Edisto Island now that my internet is up...was having wi-fi -issues...thanks for your patience and best wishes

While we were on Edisto Island we took one of the few tours with a local Edistonian...this was the only plantation tour available to view the plantations and the only way to see some of them since ALL were private.
Driving up on the grounds I could only imagine how grand life must have once been..in front of me were the stables and horses roaming inside the vast enclosures...just past the grounds and beyond the house on the bluff the wetlands were filled with birds coming in for their early morning feedings...
Carolina Lafayette Seabrooke ... at her fathers request .. was named by the Marquis De Lafayette on a visit to the plantation at the tender age of three days.
She later married James Hopkins the grandson of a New Jersey signer of the Declaration of Independence.
It took three years with lumber lying dormant and unfinished before committing to building this grand structure on the grounds and Carolina agreeing to live in Edisto versus Philadelphia.
As the Civil war crept closer the islanders were ordered to evacuate by general Robert E Lee. Three years 1862-1865 the Third New Hampshire Regiment occupied Casino Point allowing the union soldiers to overlook the bluff and view possible incoming ships..back later this evening dear friends for more of this wonderful Island...
